We understand that the thought of walking into a crowded yoga studio can be intimidating when you are new to the world of yoga, so I would like to invite you to call me anytime at +64 204 045 4692 to ask about starting your yoga practice. Or feel free to come by and visit the studio, and we can discuss your goals and help you determine the best class for you to start with.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,

Stephanie Olver, Studio Owner

If you have any existing or pre-existing injuries that may limit your movement and you are unsure if a yoga class will be suitable for you, then please feel free to call us. Most students will find we can adapt the postures in the Bikram 90 minute or Bikram Express 60 minute Class to accommodate their needs.

NOTE: Re Pregnancy – Unless you already have a regular hot yoga practice we do not recommend you start our hot classes if you have just found out you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy in the near future.

We have multiple styles of yoga on offer at Mount Yoga. They all have numerous benefits and challenge you in different ways. We recommend you try them all (unless restricted by injury or advised not to). Most importantly, allow yourself to be a Beginner!  For most of us flexibility does not come naturally and is something that needs to be worked on, just like you train at other physical activities.

The classes are designed to complement each other so to get the best out of your practice do them all to give you the benefits of cross training. However if one style does not resonate for you then choose the classes you love. Ultimately is comes down to what will be the best motivation for you to come and step onto your mat each day.

Your teachers are here to help you as you embark on your yoga journey so please feel free to approach us with any questions you may have. Remember we were “Newbies” once too so we know exactly how you feel!

Wear light clothing that is easy to move around in. For girls – a tank top, singlet and shorts or capris, and for guys – boardies.

Mats are included for free while on your Intro Pass and then can be hired for $2 / class.

Bring a large towel to go over your mat and your water bottle.

We suggest you arrive at least 15 minutes before your class so that you have time to register and we can show you around the studio. Or you can save some time by downloading the Mind Body Phone App and registering online. Just let us know at reception if you have done this.

Be sure to arrive hydrated. You need to plan ahead and be drinking water throughout the day on the days you practice. At the least you need to have had two large glasses of water 2 hours prior to your class start time.

We recommend you don’t eat anything heavy two hours prior to your class as this can make you feel more uncomfortable in some of the compression and twisting postures. If you are worried about low blood sugar and / or energy levels then you may find that eating something that is easily digested is ok (banana, rice crackers, juice). It varies for everyone so you will have to experiment a little and see what works best for you.
